World's largest Bitcoin sculpture

First Look: 'World's Largest Bitcoin' on display in Atlanta

"The sculpture displays both the public ID of the bitcoin wallet (similar to bank account number) and the private key (similar to a bank account password) allowing users to put bitcoin in the sculpture or take it out.

The sculpture was commissioned by Atlanta-based trymining.com Founder and CEO Mikhail Avady and built by a team of Atlanta artists (Maggie Kane, Chris Ahnberg, William Kennedy and Phillip Justman). Kane, who is also director of the Atlanta-based non-profit Freeside Atlanta, led the team of artists.

"This sculpture serves as an artistic statement to the meteoric growth of cryptocurrency in our culture," Avady said. Half of all the bitcoin in the sculpture will be withdrawn to Freeside every month as a donation, Avady noted." (1)

The coin itself was designed by Streetcat and cut / engraved with a CNC machine by Collet & Bit at Mass Collective. The coin comprised of 2 4x8' MDF wood panels designed to be joined together with a metal frame. The frame for the coin sculpture was plasma cut and welded at Bulldog Steel in Madison, GA. and the structural steel base was made in collaboration with Mark McJunkin. Wrong Studio built a custom wood base to hide all the cables and microcontroller components at the base of the sculpture. William (Freakylamps) Kennedy and Chris Ahnberg created the custom Teensy powered LED lighting and infinity mirror effect on the sculpture. Streetcat polished off the sculpture by making the Bitcoin logo out of recycled circuit boards.
